Flower Murals with Aga Skiba

This week we wanted to introduce the talented window/mural artist Aga Skiba who has cleverly transformed our Sloane Square window into a beautiful mural of flowers to advertise our sale this season. We like to think of our window to be like a stage to our customer’s, a reminder of what is behind our door and what we stand for as a brand.

Aga’s artwork is a consistent talking point for people passing by and she has the most incredible talent for bringing the window to life with her intricate paintings of flowers.  We asked her to talk about her love of the WILD and where she began as an artist.

What drives you, your passions and your journey to become a painter

I have always been creative since I was a child in many different ways. My grandma was a tailor and she would teach me how to design and make my own clothes.  I would also spend endless hours helping my parents in the garden, I looked after a small animal farm, plus every summer I would go and stay with my other grandparents in the countryside where every day we would go mushroom and herb picking in their birch tree forest.

Those days put the biggest impact on who I became now as an artist. My passion for art begins with my family and the nature that surrounded me.

I loved finding little things everywhere I went, in the garden, the forest, my grandmother’s atelier or my grandfather’s garage to use for art work and to up-cycle things. Painting was always a good way to transform something and give it a second life whilst making it truly unique.  This combination of love for the great outdoors and transforming empty spaces into something unique is what really drives me as an artist and painter.

What is special about Mural and Window Paintings + Your favourite subjects to paint, and why?

The beauty of window art is that they always look different. Light hits windows differently depending on the time of day and you see windows from both sides so it always has something new to offer, plus it’s temporary so you can change it with the seasons and create something new with the same glass canvass time after time, which is both challenging and rewarding. Murals are typically permanent and knowing that my creations will be in someone’s home or shop for years to come is something that is really satisfying. Both window art and murals are unique and they are something no one else will have which is what makes them truly special. I love nature and animals so you will often see trees, leaves and all your favourite furry creatures in my work.

Your Wild spirit – what it means being wild to you?

Wild to me means being able to freely express myself artistically, whilst building that connection with people so that

I can capture and translate their visions.

Your love for the wild and nature

Everything I do is inspired by nature. Whether that be going for walks in Richmond Park, studying botanical books or spending time in my own garden and watching all the birds and insects that come to visit. Without it, my career as a painter may have been very different.
